He is the Founder and Co-Manager of SET Capital Partners and a Partner, EVP of Operations, and Chief Pilot at DoubleDay Aviation. He brings significant investing and transaction experience, enabling efficient due diligence and execution.
Before founding SET Capital Partners, Spencer served as a Vice President at Bain Capital Credit, where he was involved in sourcing, due diligence, structuring, and managing credit investments that supported private equity buyouts of middle-market companies.
Spencer’s career began at J.P. Morgan, where he held roles in JPM Mezzanine Capital and Syndicated and Leveraged Finance. Within JPM Mezzanine Capital, a proprietary investing group, he contributed to sourcing, conducting due diligence, structuring, and managing over $400 million in junior debt and equity investments across various industries, including chemicals distribution, oilfield services, food and beverage, and consumer goods. In the Syndicated and Leveraged Finance division, he assisted in raising capital for more than 30 acquisitions and refinancings, which included involvement in high-yield bond issuances totaling over $5.5 billion.
Spencer gained early business experience working in his family’s business, which involved fabricating and installing geomembrane systems. His responsibilities ranged from operating welding equipment and driving forklifts to customer service and job site installations, teaching him the persistence and determination small business ownership demands.
He graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University with a B.B.A. in Finance and Economics.
Outside of work, Spencer is an avid learner and general aviation enthusiast who has been flying since 2010. His aviation highlights include training under two Platinum CSIPs, an IFR training trip flying round-trip from Oregon to Alaska with a 40,000-hour instrument instructor, and advanced aerobatic training with a renowned airshow performer. In 2016, Spencer and his wife chose Greenville, SC, as a place to raise their two young boys, both of whom are already flight enthusiasts.
